Playing It Smooth:
Texturizer Treatment
• |
What it does: Gently relaxes waves and softens tight curls to make them more manageable; cuts down on frizz. |
• |
Who it's for: People with normal to moderately coarse curls and waves looking for a smoother, softer, easier-to-maintain look. |
• |
How it works: A relatively mild chemical solution is combed through your hair and then rinsed off. |
• |
Time Commitment: 25-30 minutes |
• |
How much it will set you back: $250-$800 depending your hair’s length and texture |
• |
How long it lasts: 6 weeks-3 months |
• |
Pros: Blowing out your hair straight will take much less effort and since this treatment uses fairly mild chemicals you don’t run the risk of major damage. |
| Playing It Straight: Relaxing |

Who it's for: People with tightly curled hair who want a new look. There are two formulas: Regular for soft curly textures and Super for coarse textures. |
• |
How it works: A chemical solution is combed through the hair and then neutralized by a special conditioner. |
• |
Time Commitment: Approximately 30 minutes. |
• |
How long it lasts: 6 weeks - 3 months |
• |
How much it will set you back: $250-$1000 depending your hair’s length and texture |
• |
Pros: Your hair will be straighter and smoother but will still hold a curl if you decide to break out the hot rollers and/or a curling iron. |
• |
Cons: Because of the harsh chemicals and the tension on your hair from the repeated flat ironing, this treatment can be extremely damaging to hair, especially if it’s colored. Also, because your natural hair texture is so radically altered, wavy/curly roots will be noticeable as they grow in. |
