Step 1. Protect & Correct with Treatments
Damaged hair is particularly susceptible to humid weather. “Humidity has an open door into hair that is damaged and porous,” explains Kevin. As those water molecules in the air seep into the hair follicle, it causes it to swell and can cause breaks in the hair shaft, which manifests as frizz. The solution? “Using treatments that restore and coat the surface of the hair will slow down frizz,” says Kevin.Nexxus Oil Infinite Hair Mask is enriched with concentrated Elastin Protein, glycerine and a blend of precious oils, including Babassu and marula oil for hair, to provide a salon-quality moisturizing hair mask that nurtures hair leaving it silky, radiant and strong. The result? Smoother, shinier, frizz-free hair, in just five minutes.
Step 2. Create A Frizz Shield With Styling Products
According to Kevin, some of your favourite styling products can also be used to guard your hair. “Using mousse and hairspray when styling will coat the hair, locking in moisture and locking out humidity,” he says. So, while it might be tempting to opt for a wash-and-go hairstyle in the sweltering summer heat, take the time to run product through your wet hair to both protect against frizz and add definition and hold to your ‘do.
Step 3. Get Smart With Your Hair Styling
Another way to make sure humid air doesn’t get ahead of you is to wear your hair in a style that both protects damaged strands and prevents excess moisture from getting in. One of the best looks for frizz protection is a top knot — it not only looks beautiful, but it keeps you cool and tames frizz even in the muggiest of summer heat. Brush hair upwards, gathering it into a ponytail at the crown of the head. Spray hair with Nexxus Comb Thru Volume Finishing Mist to create hold, then secure the ponytail with an elastic. Take a golf-ball sized amount of Nexxus Mousse Plus Volumising Foam and, using your hands, run it through the ponytail to add texture and increase hold. Place two fingers at the base of the ponytail and begin wrapping your hair around them, pinning sections of the hair in place as you work. Tuck the ends of your ponytail into the bun, then use a pin to secure, hiding them from view. Bring it on summer — frizz doesn’t stand a chance against this humidity-proof updo. xx, Nexxus
